So often SMEs find managing their websites an expensive chore but at Yellow Cherry Digital we develop all our sites on a Content Management System (CMS) called Joomla.
What is a CMS?
A content management system is software that keeps track of every piece of content on your web site. Content can be simple text, photos, music, video, documents, or just about anything you can think of. A major advantage of using a CMS is that it requires almost no technical skill or knowledge to manage. Your team will be able to add, delete and edit pages and menu items as well as upload images and files. Our preference is to work with Joomla which is an open source solution that is freely available to everyone – yes, there
is no license fee for this system.
Well, for a start we have years of experience with it but it is also a well respected middle-ground CMS in the Open Source market. WordPress and Drupal, sandwich our prefered system and we’re not averse to working on these platforms as well, we just find that in the majority of cases, Joomla provides just the right amount of functionality and flexibility for our clients. WordPress is often too restricted and Drupal overly complex but all three have something to offer.
There are over 9000 extensions which can be added to the core system to add functionality, for example Events calendars, Shopping carts, Image slideshows and Google maps.
